General Overview

  • Lloyd is The L Suite’s community-powered AI for Chief Legal Officers, General Counsels, and in-house legal teams, integrated directly into our private membership platform, the Braintrust. It’s purpose-built to leverage the collective knowledge of The L Suite community to help our members make better, faster decisions and succeed in their jobs.

  • Lloyd is exclusively for members of The L Suite and is intended for use by licensed in-house lawyers and other L Suite members acting under the supervision of licensed in-house lawyers.

  • L Suite members can access Lloyd by logging in to the L Suite Braintrust at or by enabling the “Lloyd by The L Suite” connector within your Claude Team or Enterprise account. To apply for access to use the Lloyd by The L Suite connector, you must submit a request here.

  • Lloyd allows you to scale your impact by leveraging the collective intelligence of The L Suite Braintrust. Key capabilities include:

    • Institutional Search: Surface relevant discussions, templates, and insights from across the Braintrust platform.

    • Peer Connection (Peer ID): Identify and connect with specific L Suite members who possess expertise in the topics you are navigating.

    • Counsel & Vendor Intelligence: Vet outside counsel and service providers based on the real-world experiences and unbiased recommendations of your peers.

    • Drafting & Review: Generate first drafts of straightforward legal documents or receive targeted feedback on materials like employee training decks.

    • Strategic Benchmarking: Access data on legal spend, firm fees, department headcount, and industry standards.

    • Issue Spotting: Upload contracts or policies to quickly identify high-risk areas or deviations from market norms.

    • Legal Research: Synthesize internal Braintrust insights with trusted external sources, including statutes and regulatory feeds, to streamline your legal research.

    • Daily Workflow Support: Get answers to the common legal and operational questions that arise in an in-house environment.

As a community-driven AI, Lloyd’s capabilities will continue to expand and evolve based on your direct feedback and contributions to the Braintrust.

  • Lloyd uses Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to add a proprietary layer of knowledge from The L Suite community to provide you with peer-tested and practical results. Lloyd has been finetuned with thousands of internal prompts, guardrails, rules, and search instructions to help source and deliver the most relevant and useful information for in-house counsel.

  • Lloyd is not currently configured to:

    • Provide Legal Advice: Lloyd is not a substitute for professional legal advice.

    • Serve as a Repository: It is not a contract repository or a general enterprise storage solution.

    • Act as a Redline Tool: While it offers issue spotting, it is not currently a robust contract redlining tool.

    • Perform Case Law Research: Lloyd is not currently intended for case law research.

Data Usage & Sources

  • Lloyd considers all content you already have permission to access within the Braintrust, including:

    • 5,000+ hours of event video content.

    • 3,000+ templates, playbooks, checklists, and artifacts.

    • 2,000+ annual discussion threads from your peer network. (If you are a GC using Lloyd, it uses only GC discussion threads. If you are a DeputyGC using Lloyd, it uses only DGC discussion threads.)

    • 10,000+ instances of outside counsel and vendor feedback from your peers.

    • L Suite Survey Reports and member polls, including on compensation and outside counsel fees.

  • Yes. Lloyd can reference content you have contributed to the Braintrust platform, including your profile information, in order to improve and tailor answers to you.

Lloyd can also surface your prior contributions to other users (for example, your discussion forum posts, uploaded peer documents, and recordings of events you participated in), but only in ways that respect existing member access and visibility rules. Content shared with a specific group or audience remains visible only to that same group; Lloyd does not expand or change who can access that content.

  • Every answer includes direct citations and source attribution. You’ll receive links and references to discussion threads, shared documents, event videos with transcripts, member profiles, and member recommendations, allowing you to easily verify responses within the Braintrust.

  • As mentioned above, Lloyd will not consider any data you do not already have access to within the Braintrust. Also, Lloyd does not access or use any of your private chats/direct messages.

  • Yes. To provide comprehensive answers, Lloyd also considers:

    • The L Suite Private Research. Lloyd utilizes private research and data created, curated, and sourced by our in-house researchers and staff across a variety of topics.

    • Curated Law Firm Sources. Lloyd searches for and prioritizes content from a curated list of trusted law firms including AMLAW100 and trusted mid-size and boutique law firms.

    • Other Curated Web Sources and Model Data. Based on your query, Lloyd will prioritize certain other trusted web sources in addition to relying on the knowledge from the foundation LLM as a baseline.

Data Segregation

  • No. Your Lloyd sessions are private to your account and are not visible to any other community members, including other L Suite members from your legal team. We built Lloyd with the following controls:

    • The model does not access other users’ interactions when generating answers for you. Lloyd does not search or read anyone else’s inputs or outputs to respond to you. It only receives the text you provide in your current or past sessions.

    • Strict data boundaries in the system architecture. Even though multiple users interact with the same underlying model, each request is processed independently. The model is stateless with respect to other users; it has no technical ability to retrieve or reference someone else’s stored prompts or interaction history.

  • Consistent with the above, the documents you share with Lloyd in your sessions are private to you and your conversation history with Lloyd.

Model Access and Training

  • Lloyd uses a multi-model architecture, which means that it calls different models for different purposes to optimize the experience for the user. Our current providers are: Anthropic, Open AI, Voyage, and xAI.

We may add or change LLM providers. If we do, we will update this guidance and our subprocessor list, and notify you as required.

  • No. Your inputs and outputs are not used to train Lloyd or any of the underlying third-party LLMs.

We only use versions of LLM that either state in their published terms and policies that they do not use API inputs to train their models or where we have explicitly opted out of training.

  • We may use this information to personalize and improve your experience within The L Suite. For example, we may analyze this information to better understand common member questions, identify which features are most valuable, and recommend specific resources or events most likely to help you succeed.

If you choose to provide feedback, such as an up or down vote on a response provided by Lloyd, we may review the associated interactions to improve our products and services.

Data Privacy & Confidentiality

  • The current use cases for Lloyd generally do not require Personally Identifiable Information (PII) to provide high-quality results. Please use your professional discretion and ensure you are abiding by your company’s policies and guidelines regarding the use of AI tools.

  • Yes. The Suite’s DPA forms part of your membership agreement and governs our processing of personal data. You can review the DPA here.

  • We have successfully completed an independent SOC 2 Type 1 examination of the Braintrust, verifying that our platform’s security and confidentiality controls meet the rigorous standards established by the AICPA. To demonstrate our ongoing commitment to enterprise security, we are currently in the observation period for our SOC 2 Type 2 audit.

  • Only a small group of team members responsible for improving Lloyd have access to Lloyd user session data. All such team members are bound by strict confidentiality obligations.

  • The American Bar Association (ABA) and several state bars, including Arizona, California, and Florida, have issued guidance suggesting that lawyers may use AI tools without compromising confidentiality obligations when reasonable safeguards are in place. Key factors bar associations have pointed to include whether the AI tool uses inputs to train its model(s) and whether outputs could be surfaced to other users. The L Suite does not use your interactions to train Lloyd (and neither do the underlying LLM providers) and your interactions with Lloyd are not surfaced to other users. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

The importance of who is operating the AI tool was recently highlighted in Heppner v. Highmark Health, where the SDNY scrutinized, in part, whether AI was being used by legal professionals or non-lawyers. Lloyd is purpose-built for in-house counsel and those under their supervision. It is designed to assist lawyers and legal professionals in their work and is not intended to provide independent legal advice.

The ABA and state bars have advised that lawyers have a duty to review AI tools’ security practices, similar to their oversight of other third-party vendors. You or your counsel should conduct an independent review of Lloyd consistent with your professional oversight obligations.

Data Retention & Deletion

  • Your data is stored by The L Suite in a secure database, where it is encrypted at rest with AES-256 and in transit via TLS 1.2+. The L Suite has Zero Data Retention (ZDR) agreements with Anthropic and OpenAI. This means that these LLM providers use your data for processing the immediate task only and do not store your data.

  • At this time, deletion is performed by the user on a session-by-session basis. Deleting a session removes the thread, including the inputs you entered and the responses generated, from our database.

Lloyd by The L Suite MCP

  • The Lloyd by The L Suite connector is a workflow integration that uses Model Context Protocol (MCP) to bring the collective intelligence of the Braintrust directly into your Claude environment. The Lloyd MCP is designed to allow you to ask the same questions you would ask of Lloyd directly in the Braintrust, but without switching tabs or leaving your AI workspace.

  • At this time, the Lloyd connector is exclusively available for Claude. Integration with other AI tools like ChatGPT or Gemini is not currently supported.

  • The Lloyd MCP provides you with the same full access to Braintrust discussions, documents, and recommendations as you would if accessing Lloyd directly in the Braintrust. It respects underlying permissioning, ensuring that it only surfaces information your account is authorized to view.

  • To use the Lloyd MCP, your entire legal team (lawyers and legal ops professionals) must be L Suite members and you must have a Claude Team or Enterprise account. Additional criteria and the application process for the Lloyd by The L Suite connector can be found here.

Find more information on the Lloyd MCP here.

TopCounsel by The L Suite

  • TopCounsel is an MCP connector that integrates The L Suite Braintrust’s peer-vetted outside counsel recommendations directly into your Claude workflow. It allows you to search, shortlist, and summarize feedback on law firms based on the collective judgment of thousands of legal leaders.

  • The TopCounsel connector is available to any user with a paid Claude account and a LinkedIn account for authentication, including non-members of The L Suite. Responses provided by the TopCounsel MCP are aggregated and anonymized by Lloyd before being shared with Claude. This ensures that no private member feedback or individual attribution is associated with or mentioned in the TopCounsel MCP search results.
